PCIe X16 to dual X8 slots

Hi, I am currently building a home nas from an old PC with a motherboard they has 1 X16 slot and 1 x1 slot. I was wondering if there was a way to split the X16 slot into two X8 slots as I need to add some expansion slots.

Some motherboards support that but I'm VERY sure yours doesn't.

It's a feature called "PCI-E bifurcation" and it's usually found on fancy/ITX/workstation/server motherboards. Needs also a very expensive riser.

Really no way to do it home made either.

As said bifurcation is not completely straight forward since a lot of it is trial an error unless it's commercial gear and they specify which risers are compatible. You would be better off getting a new motherboard with the required expansions slots.
