Has anyone else ever bought a computer to find out there was parts missing?

Vance44

So I bought a pre-built cyber power desktop from Best Buy try to install a liquid CPU cooler to find out that on my AM4 socket the standard CPU bracket was never put in they are missing!!

After talking to customer support with Corsair and Asus because they are the manufacturer of my motherboard... Turns out I have to refer back to Best Buy...I hope they don't say well you tried to install an aftermarket cooler that voids the warranty so we cannot replace it or get you the parts missing??

I'm sure I can order one on eBay or even Amazon but I'm concerned I will get it and it will be the wrong one at this point I certainly don't want to end up with the wrong part ?

I work at BestBuy. Do not take what I say as customer support or on the behalf of bestbuy in any way shape or form.

Did you but the computer as open box, a shelf display, or as new in box?

I have to ask: wth are you smoking? :D

@Vance44 What do you mean by the bracket is missing? Is there another cooler in it with its own bracket? Or was the cooler mounted faulty?

If they used another cooler with its own bracket then they prob just tossed the standard cpu bracket.

Prebuilt systems tend to not include the original boxes with all the spare parts. :(

I'd guess that this means the PC came with an aftermarket cooler and the original m/b bracket needed removing to fit it, as such, they didn't include the bracket with the system so they can't use it.

I'd say contact BestBuy and see what they can do.  Depending on age/warranty, they may not 'have' to do anything, in which case you could always buy the same cooler as is currently in use?

There are two plastic rails or a plastic bracket that is supposed to come standard on the AM4 sockets with all the research that I've done and calling aces because they are the manufacturer of the motherboard they say yes it's supposed to have one

It came with a crappy stock CPU heat sink and fan this crappy stock air cooler has its own built-in screws and bracket so when I took it off I found out it does not have the stock am4 socket bracket that I need that you are supposed to screw in the courser liquid cooler bracket to I cannot install this because it is not there it's missing they never put it on

They used this stock cooler instead which didn't require it

the boxes and extra stuff that comes with the motherboard (even graphics card, SSD etc) if you buy it as a single part. The packaging from the part maker basically

CPU: i7-2600K 4751MHz 1.44V (software) --> 1.47V at the back of the socket Motherboard: Asrock Z77 Extreme4 (BCLK: 103.3MHz) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 RAM: Adata XPG 2x8GB DDR3 (XMP: 2133MHz 10-11-11-30 CR2, custom: 2203MHz 10-11-10-26 CR1 tRFC:230 tREFI:14000) GPU: Asus GTX 1070 Dual (Super Jetstream vbios, +70(2025-2088MHz)/+400(8.8Gbps)) SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (main boot drive), Transcend SSD370 128GB PSU: Seasonic X-660 80+ Gold Case: Antec P110 Silent, 5 intakes 1 exhaust Monitor: AOC G2460PF 1080p 144Hz (150Hz max w/ DP, 121Hz max w/ HDMI) TN panel Keyboard: Logitech G610 Orion (Cherry MX Blue) with SteelSeries Apex M260 keycaps Mouse: BenQ Zowie FK1

No I never got anything extra just what came in the box

I ended up returning and going with the computer that's $100 more

I made them open it up and checked it all over this one does have the bracket on the CPU that allows me to upgrade to liquid cooling later if needed

That's not on bestbuy to give that, that's on the manufacturer. The whole system comes in one box and we put it on the shelf.

Just take it back, and explain. If you are within the 14 days of return policy, they should have no issue returning it regardless if you tried to add a different cooler.

yea i ended up taking it back bc it turns on none of that models has that part on it .. even looked at the floor model not there all the others have it tho \

so i just paid the difference for another computer

no have no issues with over heating and i make sure its got the bracket i need to in stall cooler later

and these case from the get go is better i have more options for better cooling and more fans

and no issues with over heating i render video's in about 10 min tops as long as they arent to loaded lol

so far so good
