I were thinking about upgrading my gpu i bought about 1-2 months ago as it didnt fit the games i played (low performance), its an 1050ti. So i looekd into the r9 series and found some r9 290x for a low price but later found out they recommend an 550+ psu and i only got an 500w. So i looked more after a new gpu when i found an gtx 970 strix for around 85$, now i thought that was a nice deal but the seller said one of the fans didnt work. So i searched up on google and found out it got an 0db something mode were the fans dont turn on until the gpu is about 60c+, now im wondering if that could be one of the reasons one of the fans dont spin or are it something else. if it isnt the 0db mode and its maybe something in the card, is it still worth buying it? The seller said he didnt have any problems with the card even without 1 fan.

EDIT: he have used the card for about a year with just 1 fan, and he didnt experience anything under that period.

The recommended wattage is usually overestimated. You should be fine with a 500W PSU.

The 970 is only a bit better than the 1050 Ti, so unless you've got a 2GB 1050 Ti I don't think it's worth buying.

well im thining about selling my 1050ti to my brother and then buying that gtx970 for some of the money i get from the 1050ti. and ive looked up the performance of the 970 and the 1050ti. and the 970 is like 60% faster. I think you meant the gtx 960 as that card has almost the same performance as the 1050ti. Ive also searched up online about 1 fan not spinning on strix models. i think its the 0db mode that only spins 1 fan unless the gpu is too hot then it starts the second fan. it would make sense cuz its marked as an quiet gpu and got a 0db mode. If that isnt the case then some have said that u could change the fan control with like msi afterburner, that have fixed some of the cases about just 1 fan spinning.

I don't think I've seen one of those outside of a laptop. Do they sell them?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

with the price i've seen a 970 going for, i suggest you look into the 290x, 390x, rx 480 and rx580. they can be had for cheaper, or brand new

A 500W PSU is more than fine, wattage estimates are greatly overexaggerated.

As for increased performance, it seems like a bit of a loss since you just got that 1050 Ti. However, the 970 performs similarly to a 1060 6GB, so it will yield a 'noticeable' result. Likely 20-30fps increase depending on your CPU.

It wouldn't be a bad upgrade at all, you would notice the difference in performance.

I'm not sure if I'd buy it with that fan issue though if you don't know whether or not it's the 0db mode.

Well im like 75% sure its something to do with the 0db mode since ive looked it up on the web and ive seen many people having problem with the 0db mode. Otherwise its probably an easy fix. The fans are replacable tho right? like the whole thing, motor + fan. And if it isnt the 0db mode and its somethin in the card, i dont see the problem with only 1 fan as i would mostly play minecraft. destiny 2 and maybe metro exodus. But i can always just replace it if i find a new fan.

Well the card is working fine. its the fanthat is broken, which is replaceable. And the r9 290x were the 4gb version. And i think it have been used for mining before as the guy who sells them have like 10+ to sale.

ea500d is just a normal group regulated unit that probably won't hold up that well with that card

but to be sure, i'll add @Stefan Payne

and according to our Infos, the Strix 970 is one of the worst cards in terms of transients so that might cause trouble as well.

Best thing is to replace the PSU with something new/good...

i mean, the psu is more of a prebuilt replacement one, not a server class with today's standards
