Upgrading CPU ??

So , I am planning to upgrade my current CPU which is a Core I7 4790k.

I decided only to upgrade when current gen CPUs is at least 50% better than mine

https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i9-9900K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-4790K/4028vs2384

I am stuck between 2 choices , either go for the Core I9 9900k or Wait for the 10th gen.

But , I will be able to upgrade my PC around June/ July and I heard the 10th gen will come out at the holiday.

Specs:

Core I7 4790k

16GB ram ddr3 ( 1600 MHZ)

Asus z97 TUF grpyphon armor motherboard.

MSI GTX 1080 SeaHawkX

8tb in HDD storage

about 750 GB in SSD storage.

Assuming you are gaming, save your money and go with the i7-9700K at the most. If you REALLY need more than 8 threads, then the 9900K could be for you, otherwise you are throwing your money away. Actually now that I think of that, you may want to consider Ryzen. If you can wait, wait for Ryzen 3000 series, as it has been proven to kick Intel's ass. And better power efficiency. We have a new king, Ryzen.

The real question is, do you need a new CPU? Don't spend money just for the sake of it.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

I should mention, I hope you know your 4790K system can already be upgraded by tuning the memory. They typically can hit over 1800 MHz RAM speeds (900 actual), and with higher rated RAM kits, they can hit upwards of 2600 MHz (after that it depends on your motherboard or IMC). If you didn't already, also consider overclocking your CPU as that gives you a greater boost.

This changes everything.

Of you have to wait until June anyway, wait for Zen2.

Even if Zen 2 doesn't float your boat, it should lower the prices of the current Intel processors in theory since it will compete with them better.  The 9900K is the best you can get NOW, but it may/probably not be in 6-9 months.  If you can wait, do, if you can't, the 9900k is it.

Come back and ask the same question in May I guess, there's little point in having the conversation now if you're upgrading in June since we don't know much (if anything) about the zen 3 or 10th i series and that'll have a massive impact on your choice.

I would wait for the Zen 3, it will be much more cost efficient as well then spending $500-$600 on an Intel plus $200-$300+ on a board for the HEDT Intel chip.

Also as others have stated if the Ryzen 3000's even perform close to as hoped and advertised they should KICK booty!!!!!! Especially for work loads that do anything above and beyond just web browsing and gaming.

Hey, you don't need to justify it to me xD

I just want zen 3 to either be faster in games or knock 9900K prices down a bit
