Radeon VII bottleneck?

ChrisZH

I have a Ryzen 7 1700x overclocked to 3.9ghz at 1.3625v 16g of ram 2933 500gb m.2 and a radeon vii undervolt and overclocked. In anthem with my 1080 i was getting between 70-90fps and now im lucky if i get 75. My gpu core clock is running all over the place, never really boosts despite low temperature. Am i being bottlenecked on my card or something? I am running 1080p 144hz with a freesync panel. Please help me understand whats going on. Is it maybe because anthem runs dx11?

I don't think it made sense replace a GTX 1080 for a Radeon 7 in the first place.

But about your issue, when you replaced cards did you do the DDU in safe mode and reinstall drivers fresh new procedure?

But why would it only affect Anthem? Why wouldnt it affect other games like Tomb Raider? Batlefront 2, Battlefield V? Doesnt make sense to me. I got performance increases in every title besides Anthem.

You already have a bottleneck with the 1080.  Now you have a bottleneck with the new Radeon.  You should have just upgraded your mobo and cpu.

Not likely, Ryzen is inferior in 144Hz gaming but still capable. An overclocked Ryzen 7 is a pretty serious CPU, I think it's too early to call it.

@ChrisZH make sure to quote or @ people so they see your responses.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Because your issue is drivers left overs, what they may or not affect is quite random.

You should DDU in safe mode and then reinstall drivers fresh new, YouTube is filled with tutorials of how to do such.

How is it a bottleneck with a ryzen 7 1700x? I understand the Radeon VII and gtx 1080 are powerful cards. Would upgrading to a 2700x help?

upgrading to an overclocked coffeelake would in many cases. can't be sure about this game, though.

Just upgrade the game to something better :)

Cant really buy a whole new board. Plus i love the multi threaded capabilities of the ryzen. Its weird how it only affects anthem though...

So you believe this could be a case of some nvidia driver somewhere being left?

I agree I was being harsh.  I mean a clock speed of 3.9Ghz will suffer or no ?

Not all games perform the same on different GPUs; although it seems Anthem is supposed to favor AMD GPUs. Try DDU as suggested and see if it helps.

Otherwise, it might just be what it is. Maybe the universe is trying to tell you to play a different game ?

I think at 3.9 it would be able to muster a consistent framerate. a friend of mine has a 1700x as well and it does quite nicely with his 1080.

Yes you probably have driver tangling.  Do the DDU in safe mode and let us know if that helps.  Also I was thinking you had a Ryzen 5 I double checked its a Ryzen 7 so you should be good.

I've a 2080 and get bad fps on Anthem.

Have you tried playing any other games?

It's most likely Anthem running like shit.

Yea all other games are running butter smooth. Resident Evil 2 is constant 100+. BFV is super smooth. Every other game is fine

Yep.

It's not your CPU, it's Anthem.

I've a 7700k and I get horrible performance at the game but every other game I play, I get over 150+ FPS.

I think one of their patches fucked it up. So disappointed because i loved the game... my benchmarks i ran with the card showed i was getting like between 15-20% improvement with almost every game

Yes do a DDU "Display Driver Uninstaller" in safe mode.  Do a clean and restart and it boots back into normal mode and now install the latest WHQL.

Some games are utter crap when it comes to optimizations for higher frame rates.  Most Unreal Engine games run smooth like Fortnite and what not.  Its a very optimized engine.  However games like Anthem and what not can sink to double digit frame rates.

I dont understand how the fps would differ so much from a 1080 to radeon vii. Im hoping it is the drivers
