Hi! Planning a new gaming rig and looking for build suggestions. Main reason I'm looking for suggestions is because every day I find something new to change about this build, and this forum and linus helped me with a lot of those changes. This is what it's looking like so far...

If its for just gaming switch the i7 for an i5 and get 8GB of RAM unless you plan to render or have extreme multitasking habits its not necessary also another thing I would do since you are getting 2 780's and its for gaming get a 120Hz monitor to take advantage of the FPS you will be getting. If you don't care about that get a nice IPS one.

Is this just for gaming? get an i5, 8gb of ram and ditch the velociraptor and grab a 256gb ssd and a 1-2tb hdd

EDIT: Didn't see the ssd in there originally. Either way, a raptor is not really needed so I would still up the capacity on your ssd and grab a slower hdd

That is definitely an option to save money. Really don't want to put an i5 into my system though just because of novelty. I'm a first generation Core i7 920 user and I don't want an i5 in my build -- Just because it's an i5. That's my current thought process, but is not set in stone. I may very well do exactly what you said.

I actually already have that exact SSD in my current build. Planing on transferring it over and getting a slower hdd to keep my current build running and getting the raptor for extra storage in the new build. I've also heard reports of the raptor being faster than SSDs, I don't know how true that is because my SSD is pretty damn fast. So I'd like to put it to the test. 7200 RPM is not an option for my new rig.

I made a thread about IPS Vs Hertz earlier, this is one of the changes this forum has helped me out with. The QNIX monitors that were suggested that I have in this build are 1440p IPS monitors with widespread reports of being able to safely overclock to 96 or 120Hz.

You can laugh! But remember, Core i7 was the first and i5 and i3 did not exist until the second generation

Actually i was thinking go with the 780Ti instead of the dual 780's, and then buy another 780Ti further down the road - you seem to have the money for it.

The velociraptor is definitely not faster than any decent modern ssd. It's also so loud that I'd throw it in a fire before I would use one even if it was free.

What's the system being used for?
