Best card for 1440p 144hz

got me a 1440p monitor recently, currently rocking a 1070 and want to upgrade. What would be the best card to run games like apex legends at 1440p 120fps+? Ive been looking at the 1080/ti, 2080/ti, or the vega 64. Or should i just wait for the 1680ti? or whatever they want to call it

Yes that would be more than enough. I would have thought a 1070 or at least a 1080 can achieve what you want too. Whats the 1070 reaching then?

U sure? I have only tried it in 1080 144hz since i'm currently not at home and I'm using a temporary monitor (only 1080p vs 1440 normally), but with a 1080ti with maxed power slider and 7700K @5 GHz, 32GB of 2400 RAM I got constant 144 fps. And usage didn't hit 100% as far as I can remember (I didn't play for long, not my type of game)

i mean, compared to a 2080 theres a 20% fall off for whatever reason, of course a 1080 ti can run it, if he turns it to low he can probably hit 1440p 144hz, but if he's buying a new card, or a used 1080 ti just for apex, then he either needs the 1080 ti to be around 500usd, or just get a 2080 for 699 new.

for a little more clarity im specifically listing apex because its so demanding but its the kind of game i would run at at 144, as far as AAA games go like metro, i just want above 60 at max settings, enough to not give me a headace

Damn didn't know it was that bad... I guess the jump to 1440 really hammers it. I'd love to test it when I get home with just super-resolution, but unfortunately warframe just released a big grindy update and I just got anthem so I dont think I'll have time. Guess I should go rewatch the GN benchmarks for it and pay more attention.

You might be able to get away with a 2070, a 1080Ti could work as well. Apex isn't optimized very well, even on my 2080 it stutters on 1440p 60Hz with everything set as high as it will go, except shadows which are set as low as they go. If you want ultra, get a 2080 or a 1080Ti; if you could settle for medium-high, get a 2070. 144Hz can be very tough to run, more often than not.

oh u can run metro at 1440p/60fps ultra for sure, it's just that apex is the first game to show a very wide gap between the 1080 ti and the 2080 (optimization  for the newer card?), there's also a 10% hit on the 1080 ti if you get hdr anytime in the future. So if you go with the 1080 ti, it better be alot cheaper than a 2080.

awesome i kinda wanted a 1080ti because i have zero plans to ever use ray tracing but i also want the better efficiency that comes with the new turring cards. I might just wait for the non rtx 80s to come out. Also little to no chance of using hdr

but you can also get a 2080 for 680rn so idk how much cheaper the non rtx versions would be

I have a 2070 and runs 1440p just fine. High/ultra settings.
