HDD to SSD

So I have my hdd and I have windows 10, anyway through odd circumstances I now have a 256 gig ssd and now I want to insta windows 10 on the ssd but I don’t know how to go about it, can I just install it on the ssd and reformat the hdd and all will be well?

Yep. You will lose all the data on the HDD when you format it though, so back up anything you want to keep.

I should clarify my hdd I’d be reformatting is my OS drive (C drive)

I figured, but if you have stuff like your documents folder you want to keep then back that up on a flash drive.

To directly answer your question OP, you can take your SSD, put it into your system and just install windows on it. Just make sure to set it as the primary boot device. Afterward, pull all data you want over from your hard drive (or back it up) and wipe the original drive.
