CPU upgrade suggestions

any advice on a good cooler?

The Be Quiet! Dark Rock 4

Have you tried streaming using the iGPU through QuickSync instead? it shifts all the workload to your iGPU within the i5 8400 what could improve performance at the cost of just a bit of quality.

But either the i7's would handle CPU streaming a lot better indeed.

Looking to upgrade my CPU in the very near future. Currently have an i5-8400, and my MOBO is a MSI Z370 A-PRO. my GPU is a Zotac 1070ti, if that's relevant as well. Currently have a budget of ~$400 for the CPU+Cooler, what would you guys suggest?

Do you need the upgrade? it's either the i7 8700K or i7 9700K, any lesser wouldn't be an upgrade and the i9 9900K might not like your motherboard so much without mentioning it'd be over kill for a 1070 Ti

8700k or 9700k, whichever's cheaper. Is the 8400 really not doing what you want it to?

Do you plan on overclocking?

I'd say so, I recently started really getting in to streaming and my CPU loads are getting up 100% on some of the more demanding games, I was thinking the 8700k as well but just wanted a bit of confirmation, any advice on a good cooler?

I do plan on overclocking, this will be my first time doing so as well.

Then go for either of those two processors and get a D15 or Dark Rock Pro 4

Those are two of the best air coolers you can get right now.

Awesome! I was leaning toward an air cooler as well after hearing all the horror stories on AIO Coolers leaking. Thank you for the help, I appreciate it!

nothing to worry about. those are mostly really rare and on old ones that have been used for too long

deepcool (or deepcool made ones, deepcool is both a reseller and oem)

asetek (asus, evga, nzxt, fractal design, thermaltake, corsair, arctic)

and a couple more are good examples. at least a 240mm in this case

tho I'm also a big fan of air coolers because they give similar cooling performance, but just look different
