Best inexpensive way to stream to my TV down stairs.

DroPouT1999

Like the title says, i want to stream to my TV downstairs (inexpensively) i was considering swapping to a Nvidia graphics card with shield support but that would be too expensive for the time i would use it.

I do have a couple of old PC's that could become slave PC's, hopefully i'm using the term 'slave PC' properly.

So what should i do?

Thanks in advanced - Dom.

EDIT: I should of said that i mean game streaming.

When you say stream, do you mean stream games or video?  I assume games since you mentioned Nvidia Shield.

Wouldn't this be part of the reason of a steam machine?  Cheap inexpensive box hooked up to a TV streaming a game from a more powerful box located elsewhere in the house?

A second gaming machine is hardly cheap, i'm 14 and on £12.37/week, it would take me a year to save up.

steam os released their streaming stuff....

I'd use steam OS if:

  1. I had compatible hardware
  2. It ran better than windows
  3. It had all the steam library on there.

Plex and Chromecast is a good combo.

Another way is to look at the TV and see if it is a "Smart TV" you can often just install plex directly in the TV app directory and it will stream movies just fine.

Definitely see if you can buy a used PS3 and that will allow you to stream over LAN.

Plus, you get a 3D Blu-Ray player and something that'll play games.

Compatible with Windows 95
