New GPU for 1440p display

So I recently purchased my first 1440p monitor and while it does look awesome unfortunately my R9 Fury is struggling to keep frames above 60 nowadays so I'm looking for a new GPU. I was massively considering Radeon VII because I don't really care about ray tracing or DLSS. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestion as to what would be the best GPU to buy at the moment for 1440p gaming. I've got about £700 to spend on a new card.

2070 would run games fine

 

Assuming this is 60hz, the new 1660ti looks like a good option too

Getting a 2070 is fine as Slottr said. You would save money too. Or the 2080. Im guessing you are wanting to purchase something that has some future proofing so I would not recommend the 1660ti. Though its recent, well priced and matches the 1070 in a lot of games, if you want to not have to think about a GPU upgrade for 5+ years you would be safer with 8GB of VRAM than 6GB VRAM. But thats just my personal opinion.

Save half your budget and get a used Vega 64 in mint condition and undervolt + overclock it and achieve the same performance as a 2070..

It's pointless going from an r9 fury to a 1660ti, we're talking about 30-40% performance. In 2 years you'll be upgrading again. You need 1 further step up from that. Vega 64, rtx 2070 (If you can find one around £450)..that sort of thing. I also think the 8gb will benefit a year or two down the line, devs seem like they are going crazy with the vram recently and that trend won't be changing. So in that case I don't think 6gb vram makes much sense for 1440p when we're seeing 8gb+ in some games. It's still more than playable with 6gb at 1440p, but I think we'll see that change in maybe 1 and a half to 2 years time. 

 

Vega 64 around the £400 price point seems like the best and only reasonable option at the moment, I think the 2070 at 450+ is a little much.

I would avoid the 2070 beacause of its price, either 2060 or 2080 to ensure high settings and 60 fps, or ofc a used 1080 Ti if it can be found for right price.

What refresh rate on the monitor?  If it can push 144Hz I would suggest the 2080 as you will get the benefit of the increased framerate over 60Hz on a good amount of games.  If it's a 60Hz monitor, the 2070 would do well and should get you 60 FPS on most games.

or if you can find a better price on a VII that wouldn't be bad either.  A few of the 2080's can be found at a lower price which is why I suggested that, but surely the VII will have some deals soon too.
