GPU runs hot since CPU change

BrandBeanie

So, I recently upgraded my CPU and now my gpu runs at 80-85 degrees C when before it hardly went up of 75. I have now idea what is happening.

CPU upgrade = more work for GPU = higher temps? This means you were CPU bottlenecked before.

What's your system specs, and what was the old CPU you were using beforehand?

Most likely your old CPU wasn't able to keep up with your GPU, limiting the performance. The GPU wasn't working as hard as it was constantly waiting for the CPU to catch up. - AKA a CPU bottleneck. Now that you have a more powerful CPU, the GPU is able to use its full potential, which is causing it to run a little bit hotter.

80-85°C is somewhat normal for GPUs under a heavy load. You may be able to improve thermals by adjusting the fan profile on the card and increasing the fan speed, or checking airflow in the case to ensure it's getting enough fresh air and is exhausting the hot air effectively from the case.

That temp is in the acceptable range so you shouldn't worry

My 480s hit 80C too when playing games on high quality, Biohazard 2, Tomb Raider, No Man's Sky, etc.

how's the case cooling? adding a few fans might help

ASUS X470-PRO • R7 1700 4GHz • Corsair H110i GT P/P • 2x MSI RX 480 8G • Corsair DP 2x8 @3466 • EVGA 750 G2 • Corsair 730T • Crucial MX500 250GB • WD 4TB

which 580? (cant help for msi armor)

open case / increase air flow/ clean dust  etc

Case cooling is fine I guess? I have 2 fans one in one out

-sniper-

yeah pretty neat, case has front mesh or some plastic/glass?

what's the temp if you run the PC without the side panel?

AMD cards run hot so don't worry it ain't gonna explode or something

Idk what you mean by mesh but like the rear side pannel i have so some to choke some noise (100R silent edition) no glass nothing. And I get 70-75 without front pannel. And honestly, I feel like its gonna burn at 80° then explode at 85°

You should buy an after market air cooler.

The way it will be installed, all the hot air will go straight back to the exhaust fan.

XFX GTS variant? Maybe raise the fan speed by setting up a custom fan curve. Raising intake fan fan speed can also help.

mesh = flat panel with a ton of holes, for example the Silverstone RL06's front.

Nahhh dude first we're not in 1985 anymore and 2nd components have built in self protections to prevent that, thermal throttling will prevent the card from "burning" by lowering the operating frequency to reduce heat, the fan controller will ramp up the speed to help remove all of the heat and if that's not enough the card will send a signal to the mainboard to cut the power whenever it hits a dangerous temperature (over 100° C)

Thermal throttling starts at 90°C

Shutdown at 100°C or more

Current generates heat, it's how physics work, higher frequency = more current = bigger heat output

cause the rear fan isn't doing anything, riiiiiight.... why would you cool the CPU if your problem is the graphics card? lmao
