motherboard need help

Hello everyone  this is my first time here ,

 

anyway i have been thinking of upgrading my system .  i have an msi z370 tomahawk motherboard and i'm thinking of getting an i7 and an rtx 2070 . and i don't know what to chose an  i7 8700k or i7 9700k . i really want to get a 9th gen but i heard that they have a compatibility issues . so what do you think and what is your opinions .

the 8700k runs hotter than a 9700k, they perform very closely to each other, so if you are not delidding the 9700k is better.

you can flash the bios so it runs a 9700k, if you don't want to/can't flash due to lack of a current cpu, then you'd have to go with the 8700k

You are thinking about upgrading but you already have a Z370?

 

What CPU do you already have?

 

What are your computing needs?

i have an i3 8100 and gtx1050ti

I would say try to get a rtx 2060 and see how you like the performance, first.

 

It might bottlenck a little at lower resolutions and in some heavily threaded games, but it might be good enough.

If you are still not satisfied, then I would recommend an 8700k because the performance difference isn't huge and there's a $50 difference.

Well I'm planning to give my niece the graphics card and cpu, so you are recommending the i7 8700k?

The Intel i7-9700K received ample criticism at unveil for being the first “gaming,” S-class i7 in recent history to drop hyperthreading. The move did not feel productive for Intel. The 9700K is fine. It’s not a bad product, it does well in testing (overall), and it both wins and loses some tests, as any product would do. The oddity is just that it’s losing tests against its predecessor, even when those are simple tests of value, not necessarily performance. This was true for the likes of the RTX 2080 as well, for instance, where performance was fine, but value was a clear regression from the previous generation. We feel similarly about the 9700K. We need to see price come down to around where the 8700K is – around $350 – to really feel comfortable with the 9700K. Even then, it feels like an odd, lateral move from the 8700K before it.

 

Personally, as someone with an 8700k, there's no way in hell I'd "upgrade" to any of the 9th gen chips, despite having the "upgrade path" to do so.

 

If I were choosing between them right now without either, I would still choose the 8700k because its more efficient, is $50 cheaper, and performs pretty much equal to it at equal frequencies. It's also easier to delid than the soldered 9700k.
