it would appear to be most likely a broken sensor. or you might just have not installed the cooler properly on it and not tightened it down evenly.

Check the cooler and especially the fan connectors. I once had the CPU pump connector off to the left one pin and it didn't power up. Felt fine plugging it in, so I had no idea. CPU temps were 85+ C

This was on a Gigabyte Z87.

 

It could also be a broken sensor too like TH3 mentioned, best way to tell is to get Into to OS and run a program to view CPU core temps

What was it? An aio I assume, shop could just say that to get some money.
