Dell XPS 15 gaming issues

n5duo

I’ve had my xps 15 for about a two years now and the gaming performance on it has been abysmal. It has a i7, gtx 1050, 16gb of ram, and a 512 gb ssd. Any time I play a game it’ll start out at 60 FPS then drop to 30 FPS after a few minutes. Any ideas what to do?

Rainbow six, Arkham knight, battlefront 2, csgo, fortnite. I run all of them at low and they still drop to 30 FPS after a few minutes. I tried running Arkham knight at high settings and it still ran at 60 for a few minutes then dropped.

I have a 9570 and I think it throttles when unplugged from wall power so when on battery I also get 30 Fps.... this also was coherent with the CPU throttling when on battery I had a 1020 cinebench score and surprisingly on wall power a score or 1205...

I’ve tried throttlestop, I put the core and cache voltages to -125, disabled turbo, turned on speedstep, and set the clock modulation to 100 but it doesn’t seem to work

XPS 15 throttles hard under gaming, I have one. You can't game on it.

I used to be able to play games fine but it stopped a few months ago

Tim degrades over time.

Don't know what to tell you but the VRM is bad and they thermal throttle your CPU down to like 800MHz when they get hot.
