I recently bought components to build a PC from the closest computer department store. When I got home I checked my receipt to look for a voucher and realized they didn't ring me up for the Graphics Card! Should I call them and let them know and figure out what to do form there? The store is very far from me and I'd rather not make the trip to just pay for this. What should I do?

ring them up

they actually may relized their mistake and think it was stolen so ringing them up is the smartest thing to do

Yeah I think I'll do that. They're closed now so I'll do it in the morning. I haven't opened it yet cause of this. My rig is all set up and gpuless.

What @emosun says is correct. Especially if the department store is a chain (like microcenter, canada computers, fry's, etc) they will keep very accurate earnings reports and cross-reference them with their sold stock at the end of the month. If you don't go back (although it may be a hassle) there's a definite possibility that they'll run the numbers, see they don't check out, and the blame will be on you. Currently, it's them at fault, and you're gonna want to keep it that way.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

If you want to do the good Samaritan thing then for sure you should go back, but coming from someone who works in a store like that, there is 0 chance that you personally will face any consequences from it. Inventory shrink is just a thing that happens in stores, whether it be from products damaged from shipping, products not properly keyed in when received, products marked as received but not actually received, theft, and in this case, items not being rang up properly. To some degree, every store experiences shrink. Now for items that are usually high-priced or have a large theft rate like a computer or computer parts, they do pay much more careful attention to their inventory, but the thing is even if they can access your name and number via a rewards program or something along those lines, they would have next to no way of knowing that you were customer involved because the lack of it being rung up means looking up sales for that SKU will have no connection to your account. Even if someone took the time to manually scrub through the days or weeks worth of security cam footage and did find the footage of you getting it, they'll easily be able to tell that you weren't trying to steal it and that the cashier just messed up. The chances of the incident being connected to you are next to none, and even if it did, if they're a large chain store, they likely won't even bother contacting you at all, and if it's a smaller store, at worst they'll just ask for you to come back and pay for it.

With all that being said, it is still probably a good idea to go back and buy it, if nothing else to make sure the cashier who helped you won't have any chance of getting in trouble (though that's very unlikely too), and to make sure the management won't get in trouble with LP for missing inventory on a high-priority item (much more likely).

Call them up when they're open and pay over the phone saves a long trip there and back.
