DP (insert snicker here) cable

Finally upgraded my GPU(s) in both my rigs (1 still in transit) and I have a reason to switch from HDMI to DP cable @ 60hz

 

What to avoid, what to get, what to look for?  I see diff versions etc.

 

Until I upgrade my monitor my Ryzen rig is running an Acer 2k 144hz freesync monitor and want to make sure the correct DP cable is purchased.

Don't get a cheap one and that's pretty much it. Maybe consider the length of your cable...

So 1.2 is 60hz - is there anything better?  Should I spend a little more on 1.4?

 

I mean $6 for a 1.2 6ft Cobac cable isn't bad, Id spend double if it means ensuring no throughput issues to the monitor

Maybe look for gold plating on the connectors, as it can increase long term reliability.

 

6ft is 1.8 meters, it's a standard distance...  if you go with 3 meters (10ft) look for THICKness ... some may cheap out on longer length cables and that can cause problems at high bandwidth.

Excellent information.  I chose a 6 footer in my shopping cart, will investigate this THICCNESS

My work doesn't allow that Java to show   I can look tonight, but will absolutely take advice now so I can get a cable in transit

Well, short answer is "version numbers" are an unofficial terminology for cables and therefore there are no rules; anyone can call a cable any version number.

Work got busy and wanted one in transit, I snagged up that cobac if I don't get the performance out of it I should when benching Ill get that one.
