Connecting rear fan to psu

Yiannis15

Hello I want to change my rear case fan which is connected to the Mobo. But to install the new I have to remove the GPU to put the 4pin in Mobo. Can I just connect it to the PSU?

How come you have to remove the GPU to access the 4pin fan header? If you plug it into the PSU then you are just going to have it spin at max rpm with no control

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Nothing wrong with doing that. You might lose any fan speed adjustments if you have software installed for that, otherwise that rear fan will be at 100%.

Got a computer problem? Update the BIOS! ?

without controller, with only molex to 4 pin adapter, the fan will run at 100%, you can just get extension wire that will connect under the gpu and to you fan, for easier operation. btw look closely, most of the boards have multiple fan header all around mobo, so maybe there is one that is more convenient to you
