Does G-Sync matter if I have a 144 Hz display?

I have two displays:

Gigabyte Aorus AD27QD (2019) (1440p, 144 Hz, FreeSync)
AOC Q2577PWQ (2015) (1440p, 60 Hz)

I am currently using a HDMI to HDMI cable for the AOC display, which uses up the single HDMI port on my RTX 2080.

I do not want to use the DisplayPort port on either display to connect to a DisplayPort port on my GPU because if I turn one off (or it goes to sleep), Windows thinks it has been turned off and all my windows move to the other screen! Very frustrating.

However, if I do not use the DisplayPort connector for the Gigabyte monitor, I can not enable G-Sync in NVIDIA Control Panel.

Does enabling G-Sync matter, or will the 144 Hz aspect be fine without it?

In my experience, no. So long as you keep a steady 120fps or higher you should be fine. Though if you already have the monitor then why not just plug it in with HDMI or whatevs and see how it goes? Because refresh rates can be subjective, some people see a difference and others don't, if you're able to try it yourself and see then that's better than someone else's opinion.

Try it for yourself. Compare adaptive sync / Freesync vs no adaptive sync. You have everything you need.

I would make sure that the monitor can do 144hz over hdmi. I know many monitors that only support 60hz over hdmi but 144hz over display port. Anyways I would say that even if you have a 144hz display gsync I super nice when you are at lower fps. As soon as you get to 100 fps or above I can't tell personally.
