According to this:

https://ark.intel.com/products/135453/Intel-Optane-Memory-M10-Series-16GB-M-2-42mm-PCIe-3-0-20nm-3D-XPoint-

Intel released 42mm (2242) Optane modules in q1 of 2018. So where can I actually buy one?

16GB is kind of useless. I'd be more interested in 32GB or 64GB. The 80mm modules are all over but so far as I can find; zero 42mm modules.

I've checked Amazon, Ebay, and just generally searched google. No good. Is this one of those situations where Intel manufactures stuff they dont/wont actually sell?

It's probably an OEM part of some sort, not actually sold to the public. You'll also be sorely disappointed if you wanted to buy one, since they only come in the 16 gb size you call useless.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

you could just find a regular SSD and then use PrimoCache instead........ because its a much better solution for most.

I'm going to agree with this because of your use of a christmas hat in february. Must be some sign of truth being spoken.

Haha, in all fairness. ^ This. Optane is just a fancy name for something that barely works, but YOU GET INTEL INSIDE!

I've seen some very promising numbers from random sequence reads with 3d Crosspoint media. Optane just happens to be the only verson of 3d crosspoint being sold. I just need it in the 42mm M.2 form factor. Because I only have a 4th gen i7 cpu I'll end up using primocache anyways.
