Hi,

I am looking for some advice as to whether the following build is worth it or whether I should go for a lower end one or switch to AMD cpu altogether. The goal is to eventually buy a good graphics card to be able to game full settings at 1080p.

If your goal is 1080p then there's no reason to build that now and wait. Just pick up a Ryzen 5 2600 machine with like a 1070 (could get a used one ~220), nerf the mobo, cpu cooler and case, and go down to 16GB RAM, and you could probably get that to sub 1000.

edit: Sub 1k, would go up a bit if you bought new GPU

It entirely depends on what you wanna do with it if its ALL Gaming you should keep the Intel CPU (or possibly wait and see how the 3000 series Ryzen does for gaming)

If you do a lot of other Stuff say Game and Stream it or productivity stuff (outside of adobe products which favour intel) or are looking to shave 100 dollar off the CPU and 150 off the mainboard to buy a decent 1080p card like an RX580 now with that cash you could sacrifice some frames to go with a Ryzen 2700

Other cash saving options to opt for a grpahiccard now: CPU Cooler, Ram down to 16 gig (no difference for gaming really) and a less "nice" case

Just build an entire pc today instead of building it in parts.

I have a friend that built his gaming computer with only 256gb of storage and he was fine for 6 months. After 6 months we went to best buy and bought a 1tb hhd for 50 bucks and put it in the pc. It's not hard to add a hard drive after the fact and 500gb ssds are cheap right now and are a good starting point. You don't need to buy all your storage up front and not having to buy storage until you need more is better imo.

I disagree, considering a 1TB SSD is only $30 more, and would likely do for a significant amount longer than one half the size.

It would cost 60 dollars more for 1TB of the same ssd. Whatever ssd that is 100 dollars for 1tb likely doesn't match the mx500 performance.

It's also unlikely to be noticed that much in day to day use. It's not like the MX500 is a NVME drive or something. Differences between most SSDs is pretty minimal.

As someone who has used a cheap ssd and a nice ssd I would have to disagree. My 860 evo is significant faster than the cheaper ssd I had prior and it was very noticeable. The mx500 performance is basically the same as the 860evo so it's worth the extra money imo.
