Seeing as the 780Ti was released pretty recently, I wouldn't be surprised if they only release up to the GTX 860 or whatever it will be called. They may release the top end cards later.

I would say wait for Maxwell to see what happens. It may simply be lower power consumption with not much of a performance increase, but we don't know. Pricing should be roughly the same as when the 700 series was released, like always.

No one know the benefit for Maxwell in preformance. I'm getting a 780 Classy and it's a card to have for the years to come so I might as well tell you to get it. No news whatso ever has bee released in the past months (correct me if I'm wrong.)

I'd say get the 780. Knowing Nvidia the 880 will probably be insanely overpriced at launch and you'll have to wait several months for the price to make any sense. (Remember the 780 was $700 at launch)

The 780 is a fantastic card anyway. You won't be disappointed.

I thought the 780 was $650? That's what I paid for mine over the summer, before the price drop and before the pretty sweet game bundle.

I'd be inclined to get the 780 now, but I guess it depends on your situation. How is your current setup for gaming? How satisfied are you with it? In my case, even though I probably bought my 780 at a bad time, gaming on my laptop wasn't cutting it anymore. The several months I had gaming on the new desktop before the 780 price drop were great, and as a result, I'm not too regretful about my decision to pull the trigger.

will it be good idea just to buy a gtx 760 and wait for maxwell?

If you are worried just get a 780 or a 780 Ti. Also people have already told you that with Maxwell there are many unknowns (release date, price, performance) etc. Waiting for something that you know nothing about may or may not be prudent. Whereas the 780/Ti have a track record as far as price/performance.

if retailers overstock 7xx series because of mining craze, we might see drop in price befor they release new ones. but that is my speculation.

I doubt they overstock them. The whole mining craze likely actually made more people buy nvidia cards. Considering you sometimes just couldn't get the bloody AMD card you wanted as a gamer, you were like. Fine fuck it and went.. well I guess I just get the nvidia card that fits in my price.
