is underclocking ram possible?

Hey, so I was going to get this pretty nice mobo, but then I saw that it was only compatible with ram speeds of DDR4-2133 / 2400 / 2666 / 2933 / 3200. I was going to get ram that is clocked at 3000 mhz, but as you can see, 3000 is not there. I was wondering if you could change the ram speeds in bios or something like that to make it 2933mhz. If it matters, this is the ram I want to get.

often boards have 3000MHz in the BIOS anyway because it's a common frequency

Yep it will work fine here. Ram speed is determined by the motherboard and what you set in the bios.

you still need to enable DOCP

you might need to enable xmp, but that's about it. jedec speed is 2133

a setting in the bios to enable the speeds advertised (or higher)

same thing of applying the factory OC profile. anything above 2666 will run 2133 for compatibility otherwise.

a mouse or keyboard.

a mouse and keyboard. and you might need to set a mode, but depends on the board

yes. at jedec standard speeds (2133MHz) regardless of it's advertised speed.

 

If you want it to go faster, you have to tell it to by adjusting the timings, frequency, and voltage, or by simply selecting the D.O.C.P or XMP (they are the same thing) profile.

The speed at which RAM operates is determined by the motherboard settings. If you haven't mucked with those, then it will run the RAM at the default which is 2133.

 

RAM speeds are an "up-to" value, not a "it must run at" value.
