I got an ssd but and I dont want to get a mount for it so I decided to use velcro tape that I already had, considering how hot SSDs get would there be a problem, like with the tape melting?

I am using an MX500 500gb

The velcro won't melt, its most likely made of nylon or similar material.

The adhesive might though. It will depend on what brand /type of adhesive used.

It shouldn't be a problem. Worst case scenario is the ssd falls down and you need to get new velcro.

Yeah the adhesive won't like that. You can try 3M VHB double sided tape, or see if you can find a high temperature double sided tape (most likely would be 3M branded), but keep in mind VHB can be kind of difficult to remove since it is meant to be semi-permanent.

Do normal SSDs even get hot?

Not talking NVME

SSDs. I've got four installed atm..

Don't think I've seen mine above 35*c EVER.

Usually 28-32*c with little variance..

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

should I just let it like hang by the wire or sit on the bottom of the case?

Both can work. Had a hanging ssd for 2 years before.

Where are you wanting to mount it? If it gets decent airflow and the cable aren't hanging down pulling on the drive even normal velcro should hold up well enough. The adhesive will get melty but ssd's are light.

My SSD reads 40c in a laptop where it receives literally 0 airflow, and I believe Velcro branded hook-and-loop tape adhesive is good for much more than that.

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

You could mount it at the back on the mesh next to the PCIe slots. Get some washers and you can screw it in there.

If you mean next to the motherboard you'll be fine with velcro, right in the airflow too.

I have used some SSDs like that, I never did anything about it but nothing happened anyway, they were just "there". Make sure the SSD is not touching any other part of course. Or you can use it as an external drive with this type of cable, I guess is more clean and secure:

Get something like this one and cut off the sides so only the inside flanges the SSD mounting screws go into, either screw the adapter onto the rear of your case or fasten it with 3M VHB mounting tape, then screw in the SSD. I have had far better luck getting the VHB tape to stick, even when subjected to heat, than I have had with even Velcro brand hook and loop tape.
