I know AMD has surprised people before, especially with first gen Ryzen. And I know they're making a really significant and revolutionary jump into 7nm CPU and GPU. What I want to focus is on the CPU. I know that Lisa Su confirmed there will be higher core count but not specified. The rumors I see are really unbelievable.

From a popular rumor a month ago or so, Ryzen 3 will be 6 cores and 12 threads at 50W TDP and $99! Even though like I said, AMD has surprised many, I find this hard to believe. Jumping from a Quad-Core No SMT chip to a Hexa-Core with 12 threads at the same $99 price point is insane. This would basically make previous Ryzen 3 and Ryzen 5 irrelevant and kind of useless. Apparently, a Ryzen 9 with 16 cores and 32 threads at a relatively low TDP and for normal consumers will exist. Kinda skeptical obviously.

What are your opinions on the rumors.

imo be VERY skeptical. these seem too good to be true. if you beleive these, you will be underwhelmed when it actually comes out and then you probably wont buy it even if they are really good cpus

Take everything with one huge grain of salt. AMD hypes stuff up and lets the hype build over time and Zen 2 is doing just that. Don't get your hopes up, because Vega got super hyped up and was considered a disappointment (it's not badly priced right now, though).

Anyone remember the Phenom IV 12 core 6 GHz, rumors?

https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/528305-phenom-iv-12-core-6ghz-cpu-wccf/

Or that NVIDIA's Maxwell GPUs would have 6144 cores in 2014?

People on the internet have a habit of, how shall I put it... making stuff up for attention.

The product will get here when it gets here, we'll evaluate it then. Don't pay attention to rumors.

Yes, when AMD did promise something they couldn't deliver.

But they didn't.

On the Contrary, they were Sandbagging and only showed a minimal Performance gain with an unknown part. We now speculate that it might actually have been clocked lower. But its not known...

So they might have done that to not Osborne their lineup and not show the Competition the hand they really have...

In the end there isn't really a need to be sceptical at all.
