My first PC build

Go to solution Solved by mxk,

This build is less than $750 USD and way better than a r3 1200 and rx 550 (the rx 550 sucks, just btw). I suggest using the rest of the budget on external CD/DVD writers, WiFi, and Windows. Keep in mind that you can get cheap copies of Windows off of eBay for amazing prices. I got a W10 pro copy for $12 and it's still working.

Case: Corsair 200R $60

Processor: AMD Ryzen 3 1200 3.1 GHz Quad-Core $90
Ram: G.Skill Aegis 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) DDR4-2400 Memory $45
Storage: Seagate BarraCuda 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM $40, Kingston - A400 120 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive $20
Motherboard: MSI B350 TOMAHAWK $94
Video Card: Radeon RX 550 4 GB $110
Power supply: Corsair CX 450W $25
Optical Drive: Asus DRW DVD/CD Writer $20

OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-bit $100

Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link USB 2.0 Wi-Fi Adapter $10

Total: $614
My location is The USA, and my budget is around 600 dollars but I can go up 750 if necessary. I don't need any peripherals for the PC and my monitor is a HP 2010i 1600x900 resolution display. If there is something I can upgrade or anything I can add or get rid of in my build please feel free to say so. Finally I am completely new to forums and PC building.

I'm building for web browsing, schoolwork, light video editing. I will also use this for gaming such as Minecraft, CS:GO, and Rainbow Six Siege.

Current PC:

UserBenchmarks: Game 11%, Desk 29%, Work 16%
CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 635 - 36%
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4200 - 0.7%
HDD: WD WD75 01AAES-60Z2A0 750GB - 46.7%
RAM: Samsung M378B5673FH0-CH9 2x2GB - 30%
MBD: HP p6631p

I appreciate any feedback , or comments you have on my part selection.

I don't know if I would get a $10 usb wifi dongle.

Get something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GC-WB867D-I-Bluetooth-Frequency-Expansion/dp/B00HF8K0O6/ref=sr_1_7?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1548902637&sr=1-7&keywords=wifi+card

Lose the optical drive, get a cheaper case, don't pay for $100 bucks for Windows 10, get faster RAM and try to get an RX 580 and/or a Ryzen 2600, get an SSD, and get your Windows key off Ebay for $10. If you have enough left over get a better PSU. If you're not upgrading the CPU/GPU then get a better PSU anyway.

i would highly recomend 2x4gb ram because ryzen is very memory sensitive. costs about $5 more

also, i would recommend this mobo:

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/43BTwP/

it has integrated wifi (so you dont need the adapter) and its b450 so its more future proof if you care).

lastly, before you buy win10, try using it for free with the watermark. if you get used to it then you saved $100. if not, then no disadvantage.

You can change the case or not buy Windows 10 to lower the price

Also I would get a monitor that is at least 1920x1080
