Went to install the free version of McAfee and it would just get to the end and never install and says that there was an issue. I don't care. I don't want it. I'm over it. But even though it never installed I have 4 services running in task manager and tons of crap in the registry I cant get rid of, how do I remove this crap?

Only 3 of them show up in msconfig and I turn them off, restart and they recheck themselves and auto start. Can I do a remove when restart thing or something? I can't rename them something wrong so they can't start since they remain in use. This is nuts.

There is nothing to uninstall since it never installed and it won't let me stop those services in task manager or in the actual services window. Seriously?

Have you looked in the services Console? They might be there. Try and stop them. Also look in the event log see what comes up.

Yeah the services Console wont do anything either. NOTHING WORKS. Apart from their removal tool which I ran 2 times and restarted, there is one still in services Console but its not running and nothing in task manager, so thanks, jimkirk363 and Abdul201588.

But thats absurd, never again will I get an anti virus. Stuff like that goes right through me and makes me mad.

id recommend just doing the common "Malwarebytes  + Windows defender".

its free (unless you want to pay for active protection) and applying some common sence and a monthly (ish) scan gives you the protection you need.

its currently what im running atm.

note that Malwarebytes is anti-malware and differs slightly from anti-virus. Windows Defender is a good enough Anti-virus software. Malwarebytes covers the rest.

Avast, it's light weight

It *used* to be light weight, and can be kinda sorta made that way, if you do a custom install, know what you are doing, and just install the basic AV scanner and turn off all the other crap it wants to install.

All free AV scanners have done this sadly. AVG, BitDefender, Panda, etc. All went from just good basic really unobtrusive lightweight scanners, to bloated monstrosities spewing ads to "Upgrade! Upgrade! Upgrade!" daily. It's a disgrace.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

I've never had this issue before myself. I run their free version on my Win7 laptop with no issues what so ever. But I also pay for their Internet Security Suit which honestly still seems very light to me. My Rain Meter will use more ram than Avast will.
