What you probably need is more ram as opposed to faster ram or cpu.

Hi,

After building my own PC for the first time back in March I released I made a mistake in picking my CPU. I chose to get the 8700, the non overclockable version. I was having some issues with the load going to 100% while multitasking. Looking at this now I could do two things, wait until prices drop for the 8700k, or switch to AMD to catch there RYZEN Zen 2 series. I was wondering which would be better, and I don't really care about switching my MOBO to a X470 (or X570 if that even exists), I was going to to an upgrade anyway. Would love your guys' opinion. Thanks.

What tasks are causing such high cpu usage?

If you're running a lot of programs then it's normal for the CPU to be used to 100%.

If not then you should reinstall windows because something is wrong with the OS/software, not the CPU.

An 8700K would not make a noticeable difference over an 8700 in most cases.

I have been running Battlefield 5 while having discord open and CAM by NZXT to monitor the CPU usage. Sometimes I will notice the lag when I open up a browser to look up a simple thing on the web. This can be really annoying when I see my CPU max out at 4.3 gHz and not be able to overclock it for the short amount of time just so that it can handle a little bit more processing power. That is mostly why I wanted to switch to an overclockable solution and possibly more processing power off the bat.

What are the rest of your specs?

Try running Task Manager and make sure that you're not running out of ram or that a storage drive isn't being pinged at 100% either.
