Weird Xfinity Plan

So my family has this 3.5 Mbit internet that really sucks, but apparently we pay 50 bucks a month for it. When I look at the plans available online, that plan isn't even listed, the lowest tier is the 60 Mbit one. And it costs less. So I'm confused as to why this is a thing. And I'm annoyed that my mom complains about the speed all the time, but never thinks to blame it on the plan that we use.

That is the thing internet companies do. If you don't update you will remain on the old contract, even thought it may seem super stupid in the todays world.

I guess that your family bought the contract 10-15 years ago and hasn't looked at it ever since. If you can cancel the contract and then sign a new one.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

I didnt even know they had a plan that low. The lowest I ever heard was 15 Mbps and you had to be legally poor to qualify for that. Are you sure you are not paying for a better plan and just not getting the speeds?

Id give them a call and get a new plan. Should be pretty easy I would imagine.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

The plan actually says up to 3 Mb/s. I just have to convince my dad that we're getting ripped off. He's totally fine with the speeds. He also freaks out about data caps even though I just showed him that we had a 1 TB data cap today.

Tell your dad that I live in a house of 3 with 150 Mbps connection and we are heavy streamers and only use about 800-900 Gigs in a month. ON TOP OF THAT, its not a hard cap, you just pay extra if you go over. You also get 2 or 3 courtesy months if you have a boo boo. Because for what your paying you can pay $30 more and have the same connection I do. So at the very least you should be able to get the 60 Mbps at the same price your paying.

Hell I havent seen a 3 Mbps connection on Comcast since like the early 2000s. Because I remember when the internet used to be 1.5 Mbps back in the Docsis 1.1 era. Now with Docsis 3.1 you can get a Gigabit connection over coax.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

So, I just checked the available options, and the next one up is for 15 Mbit at something that I think is $10 more. Honestly something my dad would be unwilling to pay, because he isn't bothered by the speed. Can't even watch 1080p without taking 5 minutes to load.

Im still wondering how you even have that plan though. Comcast provides free upgrades all the time, most of the shit speed plans are only available if your legally poor and have kids on the reduced lunch program. I mean Comcast makes you jump thru hoops to get these "More Affordable" plans. Lowest speed plan I have seen in my area is like 25 Mbps. Sorry to say this but your dad is an idiot if hes paying $50/m for 3 Mbps. Id talk to your mom, maybe she can put her big girl pants on and make a change.
