Lag spikes in every game

I am getting these random lag spikes in every game. I don't know why. The games i have rn is Geometry dash, and Roblox. My laptop could easily handle these games, running roblox at 35-60 fps, and Geometry dash at 60 fps. But the lag spikes came in about a year ago. While i was playing roblox at like 40 fps, the fps plummeted to 1 fps for like a few seconds. This issue also happens to geometry dash.

My laptop is from 2016, its an Asus x455ld laptop with an Intel Core i3-4030u @ 1.90Ghz, with a Nvidia Geforce 820M, and 6 Gb of ram. 

If anyone could help me resolve this issue i would greatly appreciate it.

The laptop is probably getting pretty warm and in order to cool the CPU, it downclocks it's speed which in turn, gives you lag spikes. If you're comfortable with opening the laptop up, you can probably get some bottle money or some savings and buy some thermal compound that will help your temperatures and hopefully decrease the lag spikes.
