Classic Shell/Start - Dead?

Go to solution Solved by Princess Luna,

Any ways I'm giving Start10 a go now, it seems the closest it gets to Classic Shell.

Latest Windows Update to change how Cortana functions has killed broken Classic Shell/Start for good, now all it does is crash explorer.exe every 5 seconds making the desktop unusable... I checked and it seems Classic Shell is now known as Classic Start and is open source and no longer updated by the original dev team, doesn't seem to be getting any regular updates regardless.

Tried Start Menu X and gosh it's years behind... I just want my compact menu not taking half the screen with straightforwards functionality and no MS ads every where... nothing seems to work though the latest stable version of Classic Shell/Start won't work at all, I didn't bother with the older versions though...

Alternatives all seem to be underwhelming too, does any one know a way out in here?

one would think Microsoft did this so people are forced to use their start menu and view ads...

HMMMMM

Maybe it's because I use LTSB, but I've never had adds anywhere in Windows, ever.

yeah you using LTSB is probably why. on the regular release your start menu by default is full of games etc you never asked for and candy crush constantly reinstalls itself lmao.

That is indeed because you use the LTSB version.

Open Shell 4.4.131

The latest updated version available on GitHub also is not stable as per current Windows version causing explorer.exe to constantly crash the same way.

It's from September 29th so I don't know... Doesn't look too good right now.

While it has improved a lot it still is far from the 'perfection' Classic Shell was, I had shortcuts for every thing at hand, control panel, donwload folder, my computer, the handy non-intrusive search bar that actually works not an infinite list of stuff I don't need just what I do use and so on...

Sadly I have tried every thing and nope Classic Shell or Open Shell or Classic Start any variance are all dead now, all it does is break explorer.exe

Yes, the candy crush, asphalt 8 or whatever add game are only on windows 10 home, Pro doesnt have that. you can uninstall it and 5 minute later it reinstall. You can got at it all day until you block the windows store then it cannot reinstall. Neither any other apps.
