I just bought a "gaming" PC last evening and the keyboard and mouse leave a lot to be desired as I thought would be the case.  I started out gaming on PC's and went to consoles and now I was in need for a good workstation for my business at home so I thought I would get one I could also game on.  What I want now though is a good keyboard and mouse that has great tactile feedback as that is what I also most like to type on.  I have seen some videos on the channel, but would like some good feedback from those who have bought some items to let me know what you think I should get.

Thank you,

Steven

HyperX FPS Alloy has MX Blue switches. I personly love them. YOu could get a red backlit one for $75 or a RGB on which is saw was $100 - $145ish

Not sure about you but I think my 7 year old CPU still rips

If you want a keyboard with tactile feedback, you should definitely get Blue switches (whether that be from Cherry MX, or someone like Gateron, Outemo, etc. The 'Chinese knockoffs' are becoming just as good). You do have to keep in mind they can make a ton of noise. That will hold true for most mechinical board, but if you want something a bit quieter, you could look into Brows which have a bit of feedback, but not as much.

As for the keyboard itself, you should make a couple of choices:

- Full sized, or smaller sized like TKL? (Do you use the numpad)

- Macros?

- (RGB) lighting required?

- Font on the keycaps differs from one keyboard to another, so just check that you don't find the font too hideous

- Do you want to do modding, like keycap swaps?

- Wrist rest needed?

Personally I am a big fan of Coolermaster keyboards, as they are affordable for what they are, have different varieties in size (normal size, TKL and inbetween.. Sadly no macro included boards), variety in lighting, variety in keyswitches (Cherry MX Blue, Brown and Red on most offerings. Gateron on their CK550 boards; which I personally prefer)and, what I think is important, a normal bottom row (keycap sizes, some manufacturers like Corsair and Razer use a non standard bottom row with a larger spacebar, larger Ctrl, smaller Windows key so you can only use keycap sets meant for those board). I also like that you can change the color settings on the board, without the use of another program.

Their current offerings are their most feature rich MK750 (RGB, Cherry MX Blue, Brown, Red, wrist rest, full sized) and CK550 (Gateron switches, RGB).

They still also have their Masterkeys lineup of keyboards; which they have in no backlight, white backlight and RGB varieties, in small, medium and large variaties and you can get Blue, Brown and Red. Quite a few options.

Corsair is decent too, except I don't like the non-standard bottom row. Quality control seems meh too. The font on the keycaps is (IMO) not great either.

I am personally not a fan of Razer's switches, plus Razer keyboards have the above cons as well.

These two brands do have more options for RGB lighting effects.

Logitech is hard to judge as a brand, as they have been using three different switch manufacturers in the last couple of years. Omron which I didn't like the switch type, Cherry MX which is good and now they have their 'own' switch Logitech GX (which is a rebrand Kailh switch. A 'Chinese Cherry MX knockoff' which makes 'okay' to 'good' quality switches so it just depends on what they use. Quality control is IMO less on them, meaning some keys are lighter (or heavier) than others.

All the others brands it kinda depends on the board you're choosing and I unfortunately can't give full judgement on. @LukeTheCoder05 Mentions the HyperX Alloy, which are good boards. But I don't know the rest of the HyperX lineup to fully judge. The Alloy has a metal backplate (good thing, makes it rigid) and normal sized keycaps with a decent font.

You should definitely go try out some switches/keyboards though; these things are so subjective it's difficult to say "this is the best, get it". That is of course also the case with the other features of the keyboard, so it's important for yourself to kind of make a list of what you want.

And in this post I mainly talked about Mechanical boards as I find those the most interesting and pleasant to type on.

I don't know enough about mice to give you advice on that. I can link you to this post:

And tell you personal preference may even be more prevalent in mice; as your hand size and grip is not likely to be same as everyone else in the world. So one person can say the mouse is comfortable, but you may have a differing opinion :D

TL;DR: get a keyboard with the features you desire and the keyswitch of your choosing. Probably Blue switches (from whatever brand) for typing, but they are louder. So maybe Brown.

For the mouse; kind of the same story, but more emphasis on the ergonomics part.

I read these responses and to respond to some questions, noise is not an issue on the tactile feedback as again that is what I desire most and I mostly always wear a headset so again I don't hear the feedback as I feel it which again is what I desire.  I have looked at corsair and a couple others.  If those are good I will give them a go.

Oh, I do use the number pad often.  Another input for a question asked.  I prefer a full sized keyboard.

Corsair K70 V2 and M65 Pro

I took you advice and went with corsair and got a K70 version.  It was 169 but best buy had it on sale for 40 off so that almost covered the corsair rgb mouse i got to go with it.  I love the full mechanical tactile feedback and that it has a wrist piece and full number pad.  thanks for the advice.  it is an awesome setup.  i also like that it has a usb pass through so I just plugged my mouse into the port on the keyboard.

I used to love Razor gear but I am a Corsair convert over the past few years.

Not everyones cup of tea and many say overpriced but they usually hit the mark.

I didn’t get mine on sale but when I compared coolermaster, Razer and Corsair in the store the Corsair won.
