What is better to your run your inputs into TV or Amp?

Go to solution Solved by Mira Yurizaki,

Considering all your audio sources are digital, there would be zero difference in quality.

EDIT: The only way the quality would be affected is if something does lossy compression to the audio, but it's hard to tell if this is going to be the case or not.

Hi,

Just been tweaking my Living room setup, an wanting to know whether it would make a difference between which device my inputs are connected too.

Currently I have my Hdmi inputs into my TV and using digital optical output to my amp for 5.1 ch surround sound audio.

Would it make an difference if I connect all my inputs into the amp?

E.g Sound quality.

Cheers.

the difference is in what you get....optical only puts out basic dolby and dts 5.1....if you want dolby plus, truehd, dts-hd and so on you will need to have it go hdmi to a audio receiver.

the basics work but the better ones have better channel separation and such

optical is compressed digital signal and has limited bandwidth...where hdmi gives you uncompressed audio and has a higher bandwidth so can support all the way to 7.1 and atmos

The TV will just do pass-through to the amp. The only thing that you could potentially consider is that optical cannot do uncompressed 5.1, so no TrueHD or DTS HD audio. Whether that bothers you, is up to you :D
