cheap home lan gaming ("8 gamers 1 cpu")

col01by

so i want to try and do something like Linus did with the "8 gamers 1 cpu video" but no where near as extreme maybe 3 people at a time

I'm not looking for extreme performance (was thinking of using just ddr3 ram) most importantly i was trying to keep it cheep as possible

if anyone could please help it would be much appreciated

currently its more of a stupid idea

Ok, now for some questions. First, what kind of performance are you expecting per virtual machine? Are you OK, with used components, and what kind of budget constraints are we working with here?

For 3 people I wouldn't look at anything below an 8cote CPU. Actually my pick would be a 16core. That is 500 bucks alone or with old parts maybe 500 for Board and CPUs.

I wouldn't do it honestly, at least not on that budget.

For that budget, It would probably be easier to just get a few old optiplexes with gpu's. They should be able to play most games at lower settings. and would be much easier to use.

for $600?

it isn't possible, after looking on ebay for computers with modern CPU's with 16 cores most go past $600 (most have bad GPU's and some run in integrated Graphics since the sellers remove them and sell them sepretly) even servers with a 4 gen CPU still go for $700...

your better off doing what @Electronics Wizardy suggested because it's a. cheaper b. simpler and c. easier to do then a central gaming computer for three users
