I'd pay the extra money for an i5, or if you don't have any components for your new system yet, a Ryzen 5 2600.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X MSI B550M Mortar 16GB Crucial Ballistix DDR4-3600 @ CL15 - RX5700XT 660p 1TBGB & 256GB 600p Fractal Define Mini C CM V550 - Pop!_OS 20.04

The Ryzen 5 2600 is cheaper than most i5s so it offers great value. Bundle it with a decent B450 board and 16GB of DDR4-3000 and you're looking at a killer gaming PC, especially at 1440p.
