Hello guys,

I'd like you to tell me if my PC is balanced decently or not.

My PC is:

CPU: Intel i7-4770

GPU: GeForce 1060 6GB ZOTAC AMP!

MOBO: ASUS Z87-PLUS (Yeah, gotten Z version for non overclockable CPU, dumb)

RAM: 2x8GB DDR3 1600MHz HyperX Blu

SSD#1: 240 GB Kingston

SSD#2: 1TB Samsung 860 EVO

Case: NZXT H700i

Monitor: Samsung 32" C32HG70 QLED VA 1440p144Hz

Monitor#2: AOC 21.5" 1080p60hz TN

Speakers: Logitech G560

Mouse: Logitech MX Master 2S

Keyboard: Gigabyte FORCE K85

I mostly play RPGs and strategies and not so much of a action fast paced shooters.

I do not need any big HDDs, I actually got the 1TB SSD to replace my total of 3 TB HDDs I had in my pc before, because I simply do not require so much of an active storage in my PC and normal HDDs noise was annoying enough for me to want to get rid of them completely. So other than getting the OCable MOBO with non OCable CPU, is there something that is obviously a weak part that could be upgraded to better fit the specs of this PC or is it fine for now and it would be better to do a completely new build in the future for everything at once rather than upgrading piece by piece on this PC.

Needless to say I am currently very happy with the performance I am getting right now.

Thanks for any ideas.

CPU: Ryzen 7800X3D; CPU Cooler: Noctua U12A chromax + NA-HC8 chromax; MOBO: Gigabyte B850M Aorus Elite Wifi6e; CASE: A3-Matx Lian Li Dan Case Wood/Mesh edition; PSU: SF1000 (2024); RAM: 2x16 GB DDR5 Kingston Fury Beast 6000/30cl Expo kit; SSD#1: 1 TB 9100 PRO; SSD#2: 2TB 990 PRO; GPU: RTX 5080 Asus x Noctua; Case fans: 1x A12x25 G1, 2x A14x25 G2 chromax; OS: Win 11 Pro

yah this is perfectly fine, you can upgrade the GPU in the future once you want more performance but if you play a lot of CPU heavy strategy games you might want to swap the CPU for one of the 4th gen I7s that can overclock. i know Civ VI should get a bit faster and Stealris should get a faster fastest speed if you play either of those

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

upgrade your GPU at some point in the future.

if you keep playing some less intensive games going forward you might be able to wait untill DDR5 CPUs and motherboards come out.

I actually upgraded from GTX 760 2GB to the 1060 6gb I have now just this year and to be honest I was still kinda OK with the performance of the 760. The biggest reason I upgraded at all was that the 760 was maxed at 120hz and I wanted possibility of full 144hz of my monitor. Right now it gives me just enough performance personally for my smooth experience if that says anything about the kind of games I play and the kind of graphics I find totally sufficient.

looks balanced to me... you could upgrade it down the line, but if you feel no need for it, why would you?

you could actually try bclk overclocking on it...

It's not that I have to upgrade, I was just wondering if there were any major and obvious "bottlenecks" that I missed. Obviously bottlenecking depends a lot on what the PC is doing so that is why I stated what I mainly play.

And yeah I was reading on bclk oc a bit but I am not sure if it would give me any real performance boost that would be worth the hassle?

Thanks, I feel better now that I know it is somewhat balanced. I do not really play that CPU heavy strats, it's more like Age of Empires II kind of strats. Though I did think about possibly swapping the CPU, but then again, would properly OC'd say 4770k/4790k even bring enough additional power that it would be worthwhile to go for that instead of holding out till next total overhaul of the PC?

I mean, you could get more out of it with a new gpu, but if you're fine with the performence, why would you?

it was just a suggestion if you wanted to try it, bclk is a weird thing, I can't tell you if it would even work

Yeah it was mostly a curious kind of question.

However just so that I have that in my mind for possible future updates, What would be ideal GPU for either 1440p144hz, 4k60hz and 4k144hz right now? From what I gathered while reading random topics and stuff, it should be around 1070Ti/1080 for 1440p144hz, 1080Ti/2080 for 4k60hz and not even 2080ti/rtx titan are enough for more than around 4k100-120hz without rtx turned on right?

1070 ti gives a better value so I would do it like this

1440p144: 1070ti/vega 64/2070

4k60: 1070ti/vega/2070, for the long term 1080 ti/2080

4k120: 2080 ti

since some good work from Dice/EA raytracing got a lot better
