The PSU I have access to is a 1000 Watt inside of a prebuilt workstation with 32 gigs of RAM and a Xeon with a second CPU supportable.

I'd love to toss in my Sapphire RX480 8 gig OC, but I can't without powering it, and there's no PCIe connector onboard. I could just use my old PSU to power the GPU but I'd like to adapt an available connector from the new PSU.

You can use any connector provided you convert it to a PCIe connector and the cable/rail you're drawing power from can support the maximum wattage that the PCIe connector can take.

If your 12v rail is up to the task, use molex.

black/yellow is the 12v, black/red is the 5v

How can I tell that the rail is up to the task?

Turns out I have 2 6 pin PCIe connectors... Should I get a single 6 pin to a single 8 pin converter , or a double 6 pin to a single 8 pin connector?
