2700 doesn't really overclock worse than the 2700x, they're super similar due to the voltage curve so with a quality cooler you're getting the same thing.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

I'd go with the 2700x and let it do it's thing. When Jayz2cents tested it, he said that the difference between just doing that and taking hours to tweak it was negligible.

It wouldn't really take hours to get 3.8GHz on a 2700, with a good cooler anyway.

Do you know how to overclock? If not.. Go with the 2700X and leave it stock. If money is an issue here, don't brick a CPU you can't afford to lose.

Stock is pretty good, the wraith max is hella beefy, and XFR 2.0 is pretty legit so see if leaving it at stock satisfies you with the turbo features built in.

So AMD uses a feature called XFR, extended frequency range. It auto boosts CPU speed outside of standard turbo spec if it keeps cool enough and there's enough power. The cooler that comes with the 2700x should totally be enough to keep the max speed going all the time, so if this is fast enough for you then you might not have to get an aftermarket cooler.

The stock cooler is really good thank you AMD. When he says turbo, he's referring to how CPU's automatically change their speed so they can perform better based on the workload.

Examples:

Watching youtube - low speed, doesn't need the boost

rendering a 4k video - high speed, needs the boost

How bad with computers do you have to be to take hours tweaking an OC lul

Try 4.3ghz (no ryzen processor gets 4.4ghz). If that doesn't work, then try 4.2ghz. If that doesn't work, then try 4.1ghz (which is almost certain to happen with a half decent air cooler like the freezer 33). If that doesn't work, try 4.0ghz.

Shouldn't take very long at all.

Yet, it's significantly easier when the CPU does it itself.
