Why 16MP IMAGE LOOKS BETTER THAN 8MP

Go to solution Solved by mariushm,

Nobody stops you from transferring the pictures from your phone to something else.  You could go to a professional photo store and print them on high quality glossy paper and get something nice, you could print A0 sheets with your pictures if you wanted to (A0=  33" by 47" , ~ 32 letter sized sheets or something like that)

And they have so many pixels because that's how the sensors are manufactured, if you pay for a sensor which has 25million elements why not use the information from all those elements?

The phone can also group elements together and average the color information for better overall image quality and a lot of other things... for example when recording movies the phone can use just a smaller rectangle in the center of the sensor and implement digital image stabilization, where the phone simply moves that tiny rectangle around the bigger rectangle created by those 25m elements of the sensor, keeping the part that user focuses on in the center of the rectangle.

phone screen are mostly fhd(2 MP) OR QHD (4MP)

Monitor ,tv are 8mp(4k)

So 4mp screen cannot display image @ 16mp,12mp etc

But why high resolution image looks sharper

And whats the point of MANUFACTURES TELLING CRYSTAL CLEAR 25MEGAPIXEL PHONES (since the screen is only 2mp)

(EXCLUDE THE POINT OF ZOOMING IN TO SEE WITHOUT LOSS OF DETAIL)

Because, with 16MP, it has double the pixels to work with in the same area, so it can create a sharper image.

They downscale the image so it fits in the phone's screen.

He means Full HD monitors are 1920 x 1080 pixels , so you have  2,073,600 pixels or 2 megapixels.  A 4K monitor has four times as much pixels, or 8 megapixels.

He was wondering why phones have 25 megapixel sensors when you can't physically show all those 25 megapixels on a regular monitor.

Phones have so much software that automatically edits the pictures you take that it needs the extra data.  They apply filters, dynamic focus etc...
