i5 6600K & GTX 970, Is it time to upgrade?

VillaiNPC

Right now I play games at 144hz 1920x1080, Sometimes I struggle in games to reach that 144hz mark. I guess my question is would it be worth upgrading parts of my PC now or unnecessary with my current specs.

First thing I would upgrade is the CPU to either an i7 6700K or 7700K (BIOS update needed), you can find good deals on Ebay.

Trust me I've been going for 144Hz constant for a long time, there comes a point where you need to say "Okay. I'm going to turn some settings down..." - usually I have Anti-aliasing off completely because I'm not that big into graphics - "... I'm getting like 120+Hz, I can just turn off the fps counter" And it's actually amazing! XD No, but seriously, your rig is most likely fine. If you want to upgrade your GPU/CPU to something newer go for it, but I wouldn't bother with RAM/PSU. And yeah, that storage needs a buff in my opinion :P

Is that an SSD or a HDD? Because if you don't have an SSD, that's the first thing you should get.

As for getting a higher framerate, I think you should wait until AMD's Zen 2 chips are showed off next year, and upgrade if the new CPUs look good. And as for a GPU upgrade, you can pick up a used GTX 1070 or 1080 Ti.

Definitely, there's no motherboard that works with both AMD and Intel (obviously)

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Wait until AMD's Zen 2 chips are released, and then decide what to upgrade to.

I probably wouldn't. I run a 970 and don't have that much problems getting high frame rates on my 144hz. Unless you got money to throw, then power to ya

i'd try to upgrade the cpu to an i5 8600k or 9600k and upgrading to either to 1070, 1070 ti or 2070

That 6600k has some life left in it. Upgrade to a 2070.

i5 6600k definetly bottlenecks at 1080p with an rtx 2070
