Do I need a TV Tuner or a Capture Card?

SMuz

So I wanted to watch tv on one of my monitors.  My initial plan was to connect my Comcast set-top box directly to my monitor via HDMI and speakers via RCA.  While this does work, I would much rather prefer if I could somehow pass the audio and video from the set-top box to my pc.  My reason is that sometimes I would like to have the tv on but not take up the entire screen.  So, I thought that if I could connect the box to the pc, I could use something like MPC to resize the video to whatever size I wanted.  I know PIP is an option, but I like the idea of dragging the display whereever I wanted easily.

So I've been looking at both TV Tuners and Capture Cards.  Tv Tuners seem to be just a replacement for my set-top box, but I would like to watch XFinity onDemand and order PPV events which doesn't seem possible with them.  Capture cards seem to be more expensive because of the recording feature; however, I don't have a need to record anything.

Which would be better for my situation?  Thanks!

capture cards are used for capturing footage and gameplay etc...

Yes, a TV tuner unless your monitor can output audio and video feed.

I noticed that most TV Tuners take in a coax input.  I know that my set top box can output a coax signal, but will that signal be HD?  If not, what are some good tv tuners that can take in an HDMI input? Or should I just use component?

What signal are you recieving? DVB-C, DVB-T/T2, DVB-S/S2 ?

Is it scrambled, do you want HD? What provider is your TV from?
