It's just the main thing to fix, Ryzen is way faster than FX CPUs.

But if it's going to be a while before you'd have the money Ryzen 3000 is coming out sometime in 2019

AM4 should also mean CPU upgrade options until 2020

The only cheap boards to consider are the ASrock Pro4, and MSI Tomahawk, for the VRM per dollar basically.

You could also just find an R5 1400/1500X or 1600 on ebay for $100

Ebay has 10% off today as well I think.

Hey guys,

Here is the situation... I have a 6 year old Gaming rig that I have been squeezing life out of. About 5 years ago I upgraded my GPU to an R9 290x which helped a lot. I also got an AIO cooler for my CPU and a Corsair Carbide Cube case to help with cooling (The GPU runs HOT!). Now I have 100- 200 bucks left from a Christmas bonus and was wondering if there was anything I could upgrade to boost performance... I was thinking CPU... but it may be to little to late at this point for my old rig. Here are the specs:

16Gig DDR3

256 Gig SSD

2TB HDD

R9 290x (AMD GPU)

AMD FX-6100 6 Cores at  3.3GHz

Can upgrading the CPU (It's an AM3+) help? Could I upgrade the CPU and MoBo to make a big difference? That might shoot my AIO cooler down though which would stink having to go back to air for the cpu... Thoughts? Thanks guys!

New CPU is gonna keep it limping, barely clinging to life for just a little longer.

If you want a real upgrade, save up a bit more and go Ryzen.

For sure should have just bought a new CPU/Motherboard/DDR4 instead of that other stuff

Just save up like $300 for a Ryzen 5 1600/2600, an ASrock Pro4 B450 board, and 16GBs of 3000mhz DDR4

Also you can just undervolt your GPU to drop it's power usage/heat.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

So something like this would really help? Would this be worth 360 bucks? How much life do you think that would give my pc?
