This is just a fun discussion I wanted to start.

 

So the question is What was the worst computer virus you have ever encountered and lived to tell about?

 

I'll start this off.

 

My dad's laptop once got this nasty guy

The link is just a picture I found on google. I called this virus the FBI virus(yes I know such a creative name) It locked up my dad's computer and held it for ransom and took us a few weeks to remove it. even now years later I think there are still traces of it in that old machine.

 

So now to you guys. What's the worst virus you have encountered?

The year is 20XX. Everyone plays Fox at TAS levels of perfection. Because of this, the winner of a match depends solely on port priority. The RPS metagame has evolved to ridiculous levels due to it being the only remaining factor to decide matches.

The worst virus are the ones that people pay money for to keep viruses off the computer, they eat system resources and those lame freebie viruses still get on.

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

I think you guys misunderstand. I was asking for personal experiences. Like the other discussion I saw about your worst computing mistake

Turn off the PC enter safe mode force yourself into. Cmd and exec a notepad file to kill the process as you can't get to the task manager. At least that's what I did

i think its called cryptolocker, its not a virus but still its horrible, i actually hope that the dev team of it are killed, they dont deserve life.

Oh wait I misread, my bad :D

 

Ahh I did a project in my computer security on malware. This is called ransomware and I found it a bit interesting. They threaten to wipe your data (or periodically destroy it) or they can make it so every time you open up a browser, a porn site opens up (quite embarrassing at work :P).

 

Personally, I don't think I've had one.

When I was very new to computers, and had no clue what I was doing, I clicked the ad download instead of the real one. Needless to say, when 6 y/o me saw the xxx popup from the virus, that was pretty bad.

once downloaded and installed the wrong torrent when i was younger :P, pretty much fried my system, looking back at it i have no idea what it did but it never booted up again.

Personally I have not gotten an exceptional virus before that stood out; however, my father as well has ran into a very malicious virus on his computer back in June 2000. It was the ILOVEYOU virus. A simple, yet nasty piece of work, one of the nastiest out there. He first thought I did something wrong to his computer, then realized it came from his email.

How I feel about every virus. Fkn cunts. What I dont understand is why? What did they achieve other than making people lives hell? Well if that was the goal then as quoted before they can go fuk thenselves and go die in a hole.

Worst virus was s chicken pox wait oops lol u ment computer virus id say that fn antuvirus 2006 the one that tells u u have 300 viruses,blocks imternet explorer/firefox and reinstalls it self if u dont delete every last registry/file/ command. Ps. I cursed my wife out forbthat. She was trying to watch some vid in a news channel originaly on my mac. She asked why it wont open and told her it was a windows app fornwindows not mac and not a vid file. Told her it was a virus and it would f up my pc if she tried and told her 8 times do not try it again. Well guess what came home next day to find a strange antivirus on my computer as i only had avast or something like that at the time. Of course when i asked her she told me she tried to watch the video. She was banned to linux for 2 weeks

A while ago, I was searching for a good free antivirus reccomendations on Google, while searching on IE7 when I wasn't installed any antivirus. And then, a random window appeared: "Hey, do you want a free antivirus? Get it here!". And there was just one "OK" key to press. So I've pressed it and then BOOM: appeared an icon, which looked like a red windows update shield and then a name: Rapid Security. But wait - there was more: appeared two random files, which were named "something something p0rn" and "xxx". If I delete them, it appears again, but it even does that wicked "blurred out name" effect. And I deleted them after 2 years, when I've learned what's Safe Mode is used for..

I got one that tried to open every program in Adobe Reader, even though I didn't have it. All the icons were .PDF icons, even the ones in the taskbar, and even My Computer tried to open in AR. When I rebooted it was terrible.

 

My grandma got this ghost virus on her XP computer that FILLED the taskbar with the little yellow shield icons, and they disappeared when you hovered over them. And it was terribly slow. I was on YouTube at the time, but it was from one of her toolbars (she had an inch of them on a 1024x768 15 inch monitor), and she wouldn't let me go on YouTube for about a year or two even on my old computers until I convinced her it was a toolbar (didn't touch her computer and it happened again right after she got a toolbar).
