Headphone recommendations?

Enstage

Hello,

I need a new pair of headphones, my budget is around $400-$500. I will be using them for general purpose computer use + music (mainly EDM) + gaming. I currently use S1000DB speakers, but need a pair headphones for when I can't be too distracting (i.e. when everyone is asleep).

Does anyone have any recommendations?

If it helps I'm located in Australia, I would like to be able to buy these from a store within Australia.

Thanks.

I assume you need over the ear and not open backs?

Do you know if any locals carry the Sennheiser or Audio-Technica brands?

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 6XX. Great quality, virtually the same as the HD 650s. You may or may not need/want a dac/amp though, and that would eat away at your budget prett quick. Most likely any headphone in that range would benefit from a dac/amp.

My Build, v2.1 --- CPU: i7-8700K @ 5.2GHz/1.288v || MoBo: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E Gaming || RAM: 4x4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 2666 14-14-14-33 || Cooler: Custom Loop || GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC Black, on water || PSU: EVGA G2 850W || Case: Corsair 450D || SSD: 850 Evo 250GB, Intel 660p 2TB || Storage: WD Blue 2TB || G502 & Glorious PCGR Fully Custom 80% Keyboard || MX34VQ, PG278Q, PB278Q

Audio --- Headphones: Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX || Amp: Schiit Audio Magni 3 || DAC: Schiit Audio Modi 3 || Mic: Blue Yeti

R.I.P. Asus X99-A motherboard, April 2016 - October 2018, may you rest in peace. 5820K, if I ever buy you a new board, it'll be a good one.

Yup, over ear & open back.

And yes, plenty of places here carry both of those.

Then I would definitely see what is available in the stores near you and do some research on what specs you need. As @Cereal5 said, you'll be wanting an amp/dac to get the most out of your headphones. It's not needed, but it definitely gives you that professional studio quality you're looking for.

As he said also, he has the HD 6xx, I believe they are by Massdrop. They put them on sale every once in a while. They are open-backs so don't have it too loud when others are sleeping. They'll be able to hear it clearly.
