Different frequencie / core

Why do people always set all their cores to the same Frequency? 

Let's say you have a quad core at 1.2v and one core ain't stable at 4.9ghz. Why would you than over clock the other cores to their max maybe 5ghz or soo. It's basicly free performance.

All depends on how much patience you have.

I am too lazy to test all cores limits 1 by 1 so like most people I find the quickest stable all core settings

Older CPUs can't choose different frequency limits for each core. I know Skylake-X can do that, Haswell and older can't, don't know about others.

Cinebench R15 Single thread:168 Multi-thread: 833 

SuperPi (v1.5 from Techpowerup, PI value output) 16K: 0.100s 1M: 8.255s 32M: 7m 45.93s

But there isn't like a drawback to running them at different speeds exept time?

Not really.

 

New cpus have usually different core speed per core by default. Like for the 8700K : 1st core 4.7 ghz, 2nd core 4.6 ghz 3rd core 4.5 ghz
