Choosing a work laptop

Hi! so I am looking for a laptop that would be mainly used for school/college. my Price range is roughly £200-£400 ($250 - $510). I know plenty about computers and I have a fair amount of experience with them but I can't seem to find a decent laptop. All suggestions are welcome!

I was considering buying one but the more I looked into it, the more I was averted to the idea. thanks for the suggestion though!

Why were you "averted" from the idea of Thinkpad?

I was just looking for something more recent. The thinkpads I saw had quite old hardware and I didnt want to pay good money for a 4th gen CPU
