900D Build In Progress

SiCkHiTrEg

So I started installing components for my first water cooling build in a 900D.  Here are pics and stuff from along the way.  No where near done.  And have never done this before.

First step for me was to clean out the 360 and 480 black ice gtr radiators from hardware labs.  Each rad was flushed aprox. 10x, but pics from first 4 flushes.

Next I prepared the case some by removing the hhd/ssd bays and some other parts.

Then installed the mobo and psu.

After this I took apart an asus rog strix 1080ti to attach the water block and was pretty nervous.  In the end it was the wrong block so I had to re-order the right one.

Now I went to get the radiators setup and put in, however ran out of screws  because I did not order extra for the push/pull config unfortunately.  So did not get to finish the 480.  And did not even start the 360 yet.

So was wrong waterblock.  New one came in and is installed now as well as more screws needed for radiators.  Also had to take mobo out for custom 900d case parts to clean it up which I am waiting for to come in.  Heres pics of that stuff though.

Nice, my dude. I like the build.

Just message or quote me if you have questions! I might not be able to answer them, but I might be able to help!

Current PC

Way too crappy to even say.

I have a 1080ti as well and it sags for some reason. I don't know why.

I've seen a lot of creative ways to deal with GPU sag, but no solution I'd call perfect. One build had a fishing line tied from the roof of the chassis to the end of the GPU. It looked good, but it required some nimble tying and obviously it's not convenient if you change out any of your components in the area.

I kind of like the GPU-stands I've been seeing lately. I don't remember who it was, but one of the tech-tubers showed off a stand/crutch/pole that came with the card, and it was kind of cool looking. I could go for something like that.

This is way better than anything I'll ever build.

Will be getting ready to drill out some holes to place in the reservoir/pump soon.  Just a quick pic of where it should be around and look like.  Not sure if I am going to drill through the floor into the bottom compartment to run tubing or try and run it down the right side of the case yet.

Will you benchmark the PC after it's done?

Yea definitely will.  I get the feeling the tubing might take me a bit to do though since I have never done it before lol.  I wish I had the time to just get everything in and done, but now I am waiting on a mounting bracket from ek which should be in later this week.  I was originally going to drill and mount the reservoir/pump right onto the wall, but because its not the metal case its getting mounted to I think the bracket would be best.

But between working and chasing my 3 year old daughter around I get what I can done haha.  Plus my other pc is still running fine so there was no rush initially to hurry the build, even though I cant wait to finish!

I like the bottom plate alot, did you custom it? Or can it be bought somewhere. Love the 900D, so much space to work in, but hard to fill up with stuff ?

Got all the custom pieces inside from cold zero.  They can do custom stuff to whatever you need.  And have most stuff already fitted for specific cases.  Just certain pieces they need info on your parts.

I know how it feels to have little kids around. I am not old enough to have kids but my sisters always have to create problems for us lol :P

Aren't we all little kids anyway? Or is that just me?

So I drilled holes for a mounting bracket and cracked the mobo back plate...  Had to order a new one and not use a mounting bracket but had holes pre drilled and didnt use a bracket.  Then the holes i drilled were off and i had to grind them out some.  I was able to salvage the case though.  New back plate installed after removing everything and reservoir and pump mounted.  Now time to order fittings and tubing.

ATX board and a single GPU in a 900D huh?

Yes really?  Is there a problem?  I planned to run sli then decided against it.  Your comment doesn’t make much sense.  Guess I should have put a micro or mini atx in there?  Would look great im sure.

Its the PC equivalent of the hotdog down a hallway metaphor.

Its like bringing one outfit to a laundromat.

One person driving a Hummer H1 in the HOV lane.

Buying a non red Ferrari.

Full sized fridge and all thats in it is butter.

This is like the air vs chip ratio in chip bags.

Like if you want to, sure. Build the PC you want to build. But i see so many of these builds in the 900D where its just such a massive waste of the case. There so much more that can be done with the 900D and almost nobody uses it. Its not a case for an ATX board and single GPU. Its a case for EATX and 4 way SLI/Crossfire. Thats what it was designed for.

You might as well have put an itx board in it, it would look equally as underwhelming and out of place. Even using ATX at all is for people who want multi gpu or have a lot of expansion cards for some unknown reason in the year 2019. Even just an ATX case with one GPU is kinda like "why?".

Whenever i see PC's like that its either

1) the person is new to PC building and wants more room to work with\

2) they have some weird idea that bigger case = better thermals/airflow

It personally irks me. You obviously know what youre doing, why limit yourself to the PC build equivalent of how newegg ships small objects? Big box, small contents.

Ya i know how to build pcs, but this is the first time I have ever done water cooling myself.  So I did want extra space.  And originally I was going to run sli with two 1080ti’s and run 2 seperate loops.  But down the stretch I decided not to.   Honestly I felt like your comment was kind of coming at my throat for no reason.  I put alot of time and effort into this and I feel like it was not really called for.
