So I’ve got my new build all set up:

ryzen 2600

msi bazooka b450m MOBO

16gb ddr4 3000mhz memory

vega 56

the problem is, in ryzen master it shows my EDC as constantly at 100%, even if I switch the performance mode to balanced. If I switch the performance mode to power saver it shoots down to 25%, but otherwise it’s always at 100%. Is this something to worry about? Hwinfo temp readings all look normal, idling 35-40c.

any help would be appreciated, as I’m fairly new to building and hope nothing is wrong with my rig.

You can use any power plan you'd like, but you have to make certain that minimum processor state is set to anything below 50%. I use ultimate performance and minimum processor state set to 20%.

I forgot to mention that I tried this solution as well to no avail. Set my minimum processor state to 5% and then 45% but it’s still locked at 100%.

Ok well it's still needed so leave it at something lower than 50%.  But you mentioning using power saver mode bringing it down leads me to believe you should double check that minimum processor state was set correctly and didn't revert back to 100%.  That happens.

Have you adjusted voltages in BIOS for VCORE?

I’ve double checked to see if it went back to 100% but it hasn’t. No tweaks have been done at all in the bios or elsewhere for that matter, everything is stock.

Do you use HWiNFO?  If not -- get it and let it run for a while to see what your CPU is doing.  I'm most interested in seeing if your CPU is boosting properly.  The EDC issue you're seeing is indicative of a CPU not reaching all its power states which means it's not reaching it slowest and fastest speeds.

In HWiNFO you only need to run the sensors and not the system summary.  After you've let it run in the background for a while as you continue to use your PC I'd like to see a screenshot of what it recorded.  And you will find, in the bottom left corner of the sensors window, two blue arrows pointing away from each other.  Click that a few times to expand the sensor window horizontally so you can screen shot all the data.

Really appreciate your willingness to help! I’m at work right now, when I get home this evening I will run hwinfo and will post a response with the screen shot.

out of curiosity, if my cpu is not boosting properly, is this purely a cpu problem or a mobo problem, or something else entirely?

Well we gotta track down why setting minimum processor state isn't getting us the result we expect but using power saver mode does.  I think if we can get that sorted it will be the fix.

So I got home and turned my PC on. Played a little Black Ops 4 with hwinfo in the background, and here are the results. I'd like to hear what you find.

Also, I should say that interestingly I tried for the heck of it switching my power plan to "high performance" and set CPU min state to 45% and my EDC is now comfortably low, in the 30-40% of max. I'm not sure why this would be, but it seems to have resolved my issue. Still I'd like to know if you find that my CPU is not boosting properly.

Ayyyy I knew that would fix it.  Keep an eye out because it will sometimes change itself to 100% again.  Setting minimum processor state to something less than 50% allows the CPU to reach all its power states which then allows it to boost single and lower core workload speeds.

And yes, everything looks like it's working fine now.

Separately, I would encourage you to go into your RAM timings in BIOS and lower Trfc to something lower than 514.  Motherboards tend to set it high when left on Auto.  Reduce it to 354 and I think you'll be fine, but if you see some instability then increase until it's stable again.  You could probably lower Trc from 69 as well.  Try 55 and again raise that up if it proves unstable.  You probably have a lot of other timings that could be tuned better also so you may want to look up Ryzen DRAM Calculator.
