My XFX RX580 decided to (quote from my mother) Fourth of July fountain.

Any idea what would cause it to spark/fire. Some chips on the board are burned/melted, I'm assuming they were the cause.
The RMA is in process, but I would like to try to avoid this again..

The only thing I can think of, is I recently switched cases. I haven't looked at the power supply yet to see if I maybe plugged it into the additional CPU port. But I wouldn't think it would push that much power through?

At the time, Mist Survival was being played during an "intense moment"

The fans have always spun, however I never heard them spin up, as I usually play games via steam link and not on the computer itself, so I am not in the room to hear the GPU spin up. Or I am not playing intense enough games.

Any idea?

Here's the build:

PSU: EVGA 1000GQ

MB: asus z170a

Intel Core i7 6700K

Corsair Hydro Cooler

16gb Dominator DDR4

you have to tell us what sparked/burnt first. Otherwise the recommendation will be vague, such as "impress God" or "get better cooling"

The RX580...

nothing else sparked or showed any signs of such.

I mean you have to pin point the component. A resistor, an inductor, a capacitor, a controller, a mosfet etc.

If you don't know what happened then the only thing I can guess, is that maybe you had a smaller component within the card that was faulty and it showed itself early by sparking. I'm not too familiar with power supplies beyond certain points of knowledge, but to anyone, is it possible OP's PSU did any of this?

Oops. That's my queue to get some sleep. :D

@OP: Anyway for you to test the PSU safely?  Just to be sure it's not the culprit in all of this.

hahaha I know the feeling. I have a feeling it could be the psu but I have doubts

Well, after taking the gpu out, everything powers on, works properly, no signs of this ever happening in the case, just the smell of it remains. (Luckily).

I bought everything, except the GPU in 2016. And I’ve never had a problem before.

Hm. Sounds just like a faulty card then. rip
