Help with either rupgrading or jsut building a new system.

For Christmas I was planning on upgrading my brother' PC or building him a new one

This is the current PCPP link for the new system, minus the case and PSU

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3cC6LJ

The used would involve replacing every part but the 500w PSU, case, Ram, and maybe cooler

He mainly wants it for art stuff and MH:W

He currently has a G3258 and an rX 460.

What PSU does he currently have? Some units usually shouldn't be trusted in systems like this.

He as an eVGA 500w PsU, so that should be fine. Although this is coming from someone who uses a free 1000w psu.

Even EVGA has some bad units, what model is it?

As a general rule, nothing below a Tier 3 on our PSU Tier List should be used in a system that's actually cared about:

What type? There are many EVGA 500W PSUs.

Ryzen 7 3700X / 16GB RAM / Optane SSD / GTX 1650 / Solus Linux

It's a 500w W1. I don't see it and the closest one is a tier 6.

You'll probably want a new PSU then as well. Corsiar CX550Ms are usually good budget options.

Alright. So should I buy the system or upgrade the old PC?

Buy the system with a new PSU. If you can't fit a new PSU in the budget, reuse the RX 460 in the new system.
